DRIVERS

STAND TOGETHER - WIN TOGETHER!

“We are the ambassadors of Gordon Food Service. We represent the GFS brand publicly and with customers and have built a highly profitable company. As unionized drivers, we will negotiate a contract that reflects our outstanding service and value to the company.”

Its important to note that the current pay/work structure will remain unchanged as per the rules of the Labour Relations Code under section 32 during the certification and collective bargaining process:

No change during certification

32   (1)If an application for certification is pending, an employer must not increase or decrease rates of pay or alter a term or condition of employment of the employees affected by the application, without the board’s written permission

It is important to note that drivers currently paid p4p or hourly will be able to continue with their current payment structure without any interference from the company. This is commonly referred to as “a freeze on work conditions” in labour relations terminology. Having a freeze on work conditions is crucial for workers as it ensures that all their pre-existing pay/benefits/work conditions etc. are safeguarded when joining the union. This also establishes a pay and work foundation for the Union to negotiate above and beyond. Ultimately, it benefits all employees involved, making it a win-win situation.

In terms of wages, the goal of collective bargaining is to improve through negotiations both the p4p and hourly structures. Ultimately, the Union will negotiate proposals into the collective agreement that stipulates that drivers will have the final say on how they wish to be paid, and the Union will not prefer one structure over the other.

The Union will always continue to prioritize listening to its membership and firmly and diligently voicing drivers’ proposals in collective bargaining.
